The Isle of Man a great place to visit this Autumn and Winter

Thu, 27 Oct 2016

Although the Isle of Man lures many visitors during the summer months, it’s easy to overlook the abundance of attractions on the Island during the autumn and winter.

Apart from being less crowded, the period between November and March can be a rewarding time to explore the Island’s many tourist spots – indoors and out.

But will it be warm enough, we hear you say!

Well, it so happens that the Isle of Man is blessed with a temperate climate, benefitting as it does from the Gulf Stream. This means the weather can be surprisingly moderate all year round.

Travelling around the Island by car during autumn and winter is usually much easier. You can meander around the lanes taking in the views, without other road users putting you under pressure.

It can also be a wonderful time of year to take advantage of the Island’s multitude of walks, to go pony trekking or to head out on a cycle ride.

However you prefer to spend an “out of season” holiday or short break, Isle of Man Events can organise your whole trip. We’ll arrange your travel and accommodation, book tickets for events and give you the inside knowledge about what to do, to make the most of your visit.

Here are some examples of things to do on the Isle of Man this autumn and winter.

  • To soak up the Isle of Man’s rich culture, a fascinating new exhibition has just opened at the House of Manannan in Peel. It’s called “Valhalla: Life and Death in Viking Britain” where you can discover the impact the Vikings had on the Isle of Man, dating back over a thousand years. The Island’s great selection of museums, castles and exhibition centres generally all stay open during the winter months.
  • If live entertainment is your bag, then the Isle of Man’s atmospheric Gaiety Theatre won’t disappoint. Amongst a number of shows scheduled over the coming months, you can book now for Magical Mozart by Candlelight on Tuesday December 6th, comedian Romesh Ranganathan’s brand new Irrational Show on Thursday December 8, a production of the Wizard of Oz which runs from Friday December 16th to Saturday December 31st and, further ahead, how about A Viennese Strauss Gala on Friday February 17th 2017.
  • As another option, in the run up to Christmas, why not let the train take the strain. Celebrate an anniversary or birthday on a stress free, enchanting journey through the Manx countryside with one of Isle of Man Railways’ themed events that they do so well.  All packages can be tailored to meet your requirements and there are group travel discounts available for parties of 20 or more.
  • The Railway’s Twelve Days of Christmas Dining Car is a great way to celebrate the festive season with friends and family.  You can select from a variety of sit down lunches & dinners, Christmas bites and party nights.  With service that is second-to-none, savour fabulous food accompanied by flutes of champagne and cocktails, whilst being transported majestically across the Island.
  • At Christmas, too, the Isle of Man Santa Express trains are always hugely popular family fun occasions and well worth experiencing.
