The biodiversity of the island is abundant with geology, wildlife, flowers, and birdlife all waiting to be discovered in landscapes that take your breath away. Mountainous moorland upland habitats brimming with life and contrasting colours, a dramatic coastline that’s been created over millions of years in perfect contrast to the lush rolling green pastures, not forgetting our magical and mystical national glens...there's so much to see.

Walk Highlights

  1. The famous’ stunning section of the Raad Ny Foillan around the Southern tip of the Island.
  2. The Central Highlands Northern ridge for spectacular panoramic views of the North of the Island and beyond
  3. Around Langness, an area of special scientific interest and home to some amazing bird and marine wildlife.
  4. Travel on the island’s heritage Victorian transport.
  5. Visit historic Peel and Castletown including the new internment museum at Knockaloe. 
  6. A spectacular route where you will see the Island from 4 summits in one day.

Grading

Activity Level – All walks are moderate and have been created to give you maximum satisfaction for your walking experience. Routes contain varying landscapes with a variety of paths and slopes the occasional challenging incline, plis stiles, kissing gates, steps, and possibly an uneven path every now and then. All the routes on this fabulous holiday are suitable for keen walkers and anyone who is active.

Day 1

Arrive and transfer to your centrally located accommodation in the Island’s capital Douglas. There will be a group meeting in the evening to meet your leader and discuss the weeks walking programme and preparations for the following days route.

Day 2

Day 2 – After breakfast transfer from your Douglas base to take the steam train south. A pleasant ride of about 30 mins will bring us to Ballasalla from where on foot we will follow the coast.

Overall height gain:         100 ft / 31 m

Day 3

Taking the Manx Electric Railway for the 25 minute trip to Laxey.  Swiftly transfer to the Snaefell Mountain Railway for the spectacular ride up to the highest point on the Island, where, on a clear day you will see the ‘ 7 Kingdoms’. 

Approximate length:      8 miles / 12.8 km

Overall height gain:         860 ft / 262 m

Day 4

Transfer to Port St Mary for the start of one of the best coastal footpath stretches anywhere in the UK, featured on numerous television and radio programmes and in newspaper and magazine articles. 

Approximate Length:      9 miles / 14.5 km

Overall height gain:         1100 ft / 335 m

Day 5

Rest Day - Explore the Island at your leisure with the use of the Go Explore Card

Day 6

Transfer west to the historic fishing town of Peel with its stunning 11th century Viking Castle. After a walk around the outskirts of the castle to spot seals, puffins and possibly a basking shark, head off to explore the dramatic west coast.

Overall height gain:         1950 ft / 594 m

Day 7

Transfer to the centre of the Island and commence a walk following the Island Millennium Way.  The beautiful Manx uplands of the Central Highlands offer views galore in all directions. 

Approximate length:      11 miles / 17.7 km

Overall height gain:         2050 ft / 624 m
