The Isle of Man is deservingly described as a railway enthusiast’s paradise – and it would be hard to argue with that. With its collection of unique narrow-gauge railways that traverse the Island, skirting its coastal cliff tops, leafy glens and mountainous moorlands, there really is no better place to be on aboard an historic train.  

The Summer Transport Festival, undoubtedly one of the most popular events in the calendar for train lovers, provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate our wonderful steam and electric railway network – in minute detail. With trips and stop offs, as well as workshop, museum, station and sidings visits, the Festival is a week-long celebration of all things rail related.

As always, the network’s locomotives, freight wagons, trams and trailers will be the star attractions.

The Manx Steam Railway recently celebrated its 150th anniversary and the Manx Electric Railway is not far behind, having chalked up 130 years in existence. They are both still going strong, ably supported by some truly dedicated staff, who take huge pride in their upkeep and maintenance of the rolling stock.
